why don"t the changes to font size I make in templates apply to my emails? I have tried all the various settings and still am stuck with an unreadable 8 point font.
What do you mean by “my emails” ? Font for new email is taken from template if template is chosen as default. If there is no template chosen, font is taken from “Send” settings.
