Cannot connect to gmail

cannot connect to gmail…suddenly had same problem with Outlook, so d/l’d EM Client in hope problem would be solved.  It’s not.  I do not havr 2-step verification so that is not the problem…I am getting error message saying I have to be connected to the net, which obviously I am.  Any ideas?  Have reset all account info with new passwords, and Gmail itself is working fine.

next time the error about not being connected pops up, please go to Tools>Operations>Log and copy the content of this window here. It will have more information about your problem.
