Calendar invitation are not sent

It sounds like this issue still exists if I am not wrong. I have had a number of appointments that do not come across - some using exchange some not. Nothing seems to get sent. And it is not showing up on the other side calendars.

Outlook always sends and email and that is the way it is customary to do business. I have outlook set up on the same accounts (running on Macbook), and since Outlook for MacOS sucks, I was hoping for this to be a viable alternative.

If this is not fixed, this is a show stopper. Would love to continue but that is the end of the road, and seeing it has been 3 years on this thread and the only othe one I could find, It would seem this remains the case.

Hello,
I thought I was doing something wrong that caused that no invitations were sent, but I see now that it has been an issue for more than 5 years. How can any business still use this software without support for sending invitations to meetings?
I love eM client, but this is a crucial feature for any employee of a company that works remotely. When you create the event, the main button needs to be “Send invitations and close”, and do it, not saving the meeting for just my calendar lol.
With the same account and server, Outlook does send the invitation, so it’s not a server issue.

Invitations are normally sent be the calendar server where you create the event. The exception is if you create the event in Local Folders, then eM Client is solely responsible for sending the invitation.

Who is your calendar provider, and how is it setup in eM Client? (CalDAV, Exchange, AirSYnc, Google Calendar etc.)

Thanks for the quick reply. I was not aware that the calendar server was a separate thing from the mail server. I’ve been reviewing my provider and I don’t think it supports calendar synchronization. I can create and export the calendar on the web app, but it warns me that it will be read-only. I use serviciodecorreo.es as an email server. I’m going to research if I can set up one of those email providers you mentioned.

I’ve imported a calendar from google calendar, and now it successfully syncs the events. BUT it still doesn’t send invitations when I hit Save and close. I’m going to keep testing.

I’m using the standard icloud calendar. Invitations are not sent. I’m confused, is this ‘expected’? :hushed:

Using CalDAV. Settings under account are:

https://caldav.icloud.com/

Using my credentials.

Is there a specific way to set this up?

eMclient tagline: eM Client is a desktop email client with full iCloud synchronization.

So as far as I can tell, this should ‘just work’. Can’t have a meeting if an invite doesn’t send. ?

The invitations are sent by the iCloud server, not eM Client.

You might want to ask them for assistance if they are not sending them.

Hi Gary,

I chatted with Apple and received a call from their specialists. Long story short they said the issue was with the client as everything was working (obviously) on their end (it’s Apple right). So I can create events from icloud calendar on the web and everything works fine. Those events show up in eMclient calendar fine (so icloud calendar is syncing with eMcilent) and my icloud email also works fine from within eMclient.

They suggested eMclient should contact Apple to make sure their client is contacting apple correctly.

Note the strange behaviour that whilst invites for new events are not sent, if I cancel the event, the invitee will receive an email “this meeting has been cancelled” (even though they never got an invite to said meeting).

Apple sends you this link: Share iCloud calendars on iPhone – Apple Support (AU)

And here’s the summary of their response:

This is the advertised eMclient functionality.

While we are here, can I ask why one of my machines has a “Local Folders” / Calendar while the other does not. Where might I have created a local folder for a calendar and how would I delete it? Thanks

Further update. I can confirm that the invites are sent from eMclient prior version installed on my other PC as expected. 9.2.1222 (sometimes)

However 9.2.1577 is not working on either of my other 2 PC’s (yes 3 in total).

This is surely a big clue?

It is. The event is saved in the iCloud calendar, and the iCloud server says it will send the invitation, so eM Client doesn’t do anything more.

If the iCloud server is not sending the invitation, as it says it will, then you will need to ask the calendar provider to resolve it for you. eM Client doesn’t send the invitation in this scenario because the server already agreed it will send it.

Thanks Gary, the issues here are however:

  1. Up until a few years ago, people still built businesses where they thought humans should help one another as part of the process (‘customer service’ I believe they used to call it). When the ‘other side’ of this whole equation is APPLE, one of the largest companies in the world, the onus is clearly and obviously on eMclient to ensure their clients are having the advertised experience of a ‘seamless integration with icloud’. This should be as plain as the nose on one’s face imho. Clearly Apple aren’t going to help me, so eMclient’s answer to me is simply “we don’t care”. You could offer to screen share and take a look.

  2. I’ve trouble-shot this every which way from Wednesday, but there are only a handful of settings I can play with across your software application and my icloud account. Clearly the fact that it works on some of my machines (on an earlier version of your software) and not on others, is about the best feedback I can provide.

  3. If the problem was Apple, many other users would be experiencing this issue. I dare say, given the last remaining fix for me to try is to completely uninstall and re-build eMclient, that this might actually work. If it did, it would I think (correct me if I’m wrong) ultimately just prove the issue was within eMclient. In which case, guiding me through such a process might actually provide valuable feedback for your team. Rather eMclient just wants me to ‘struggle on’ without support, even as a paying customer, while there are yet a number of things we could try no doubt. Have you tried to replicate the issue? If it’s an Apple problem, then no doubt you will experience the same problem. I’m sure someone in the team has an icloud account to experiment on. If you can’t replicate the issue, then we are all agreed it’s not an Apple problem right, so we should logically stop mentioning that. The next logical question then is ‘what else could be the problem’? This is clearly what we are trying to get at.

I was having the EXACT same issue. But I found a solution…at least for me…

In EmClient, right click on the calendar icon, then settings. There is an area called “Invitation sending behavior”. The default was set to “NEVER” for some reason. I changed it to ALWAYS SEND" and not I am getting notifications through Exchange and Gmail.

By default the Calendar Invitation setting is normally set to “Allways Ask”.

I am amazed and disappointed that em have been so stubborn on this issue, and not provided a solution. E.g. they could make it an option to either use the server or send an email (like the rest of the calendar world seems to do),
Surely sending an email is not a big change - especially with so many people wanting it?

It really depends on where you create the event. If you create it in the calendar stored on your provider’s server, the server sends the invitation. However, they don’t create a copy of the message in your Sent folder. You will need to ask your calendar provider if that is something they can do, but it could be impossible if you don’t have an email account with them. For example I have some iCloud calendars, but they are not linked to an iCloud hosted email account, so there is nowhere for them to save the sent invitation as they don’t have access to my mailbox.

The other option is to let eM Client send the invitations. For that you will need to create the event in your Local Folders calendar. eM Client will send the invitation, and you will see the sent message in your Sent folder.

Thanks Gary, I want em to send the invites and am only using one calendar in local folders, have selected always send in settings - but nothing in sent folder? ARe there any other settings? Or logs for debugging?

To have eM Client send the invitation you need to:

  1. Create the event in your Local Folders Calendar.

  2. Add a participant.

  3. After saving, click on Send Invite.

If you don’t see the send confirmation, it means you have previously chosen not send and not to ask again. You can reset this in Menu > Settings > Calendar. Just change the option back to Always Ask.

Sent invitations will be in the Sent folder of your default email account.

If the messages aren’t being sent, then they will still be in the Local Folder Outbox. You will also see an SMTP error in Menu > Operations > Log tab which will have more details on the error.

Thanks, got it - because I am using local folders and it’s a local calendar, I was looking in the local sent folder. (Which makes me wonder what it’s there for, if em uses the account sent folder?)

The Local Folders Sent folder is used when you have setup POP3 accounts, and chosen to store the messages in Local Folders.
