It is currently possible to automatically move items from the mail folders to the archive folder. But in order to remove items from the archive folder one has to do it manually.
Would it be possible to add the option to automatically set a time span when items in the archived folder will be deleted automatically. Example, to keep items in the archive folder for 12 months a 12 month time frame would be set so that all items in the archive folder which are older than 12 months will automatically be removed. A warning could be displayed prior to the removal in order to allow the user to cancel the operation or change the duration before the items are removed.

You would normally use “Automatic Archiving” in eM Client.

Maybe in the future. You can certainly put a suggestion for that option to be added on the eM Client Sleekplan Suggestion ideas and voting page.
Automatic archiving is normally designed “to store messages offline” and not permanently delete them.
As @PoulBak says why move them to archive only to delete.
