Application locks up and I need to access irreplaceable emails

I think the database has bee corrupted. I have run the db repair apps but I’m still having the following troubles. When I run the application it seems to lock up. At the bottom of the window it tells me that it is Synchronizing items, but this never completes. I made a backup of the database with a third party program. Uninstalled the app ran it. It behaved correctly. Restored the database and now it’s doing the same problem again. I have some irreplaceable emails that I need to get back. Ho can I get these?

no error messages at all. Just got this the last time I ran the program
