After updating to version 10, my e-mails only arrive in the unread folder and disappear after opening

I updated eM Client to version 10 and wanted and wanted to make some choices later. I can’t access those choices anymore and now I have a problem. Incoming e-mails are going into the unread folder. Once I’have read them they disappear. I also can’t move them to either of the 2 e-mails adresses. Help.

Have you tried activating the category option in Settings > E-Mail > Categories > Checkmark “Show Categories” (pls bear with me – I have the German version installed, so I’m translating on-the-fly here…)?

Thank you, I just checked those settings and the checkmark is next to ‘show categories’ : Gmail accounts, non-Gmailaccounts etc. Below that, under Display : show number of recent messages (checked), and show number of unread messages (not checked). And below that there is a scroll menu with 3 options for receiving mails (all filled in)

HI Paula, since you have Inbox categories enabled, it sounds, like your emails are being delivered into the different Inboxes that should now be visible as Tabs above your email message list (they are a new feature so you may not have noticed them).

The “unread” emails counts emails across all Inboxes, but if you are only looking in your Primary Inbox, you may not see them. If you don’t want multiple Inboxes organised by Category you can disable (untick) Categories altogether, then all your incoming emails will once again be delivered to a single Inbox (including emails already received). Alternatively, if you want some Inbox Categories but not others, right-click the Category Tabs in the main eM Client window, then the Category Tabs submenu and tick/untick the Categories as you wish.

Hi Robin, I have now disabled the categories and it seems to be working. I’ll keep an eye on it over the next few days, but for now, it’s a relief that you understand what the issue is. I’ll send another message once I’m completely sure (after tomorrow or the day after).

Thanks for the reply Robin - helped me solve the same problem. Wish the software installed without making changes to the settings.

When upgrading from v9 to v10 it gave me a pop-up allowing me to choose what I wanted to enable in the new version. When I choose to not use any of the new features, none of my settings were changed. Based on reading the forums it seems a lot of people didn’t understand or pay attention to this pop-up and choose to enable some of the new features (such as categories). I think it would have been easier on eM Client if they just didn’t enable any of the new features and forced the users to go into the settings afterwards if they wanted to use them. I do understand they wanted to present the new features and make them known, but most users choose to enable them unknowingly, and then didn’t understand how they worked afterwards. At least if users were forced to enable it in the settings they would know exactly which setting caused any given change to the software behavior.

I personally agree with eM Client that “it was better to have the options listed when you install the program”, and if some users then didn’t read the various installation options, the forum users or official support can then advise after the install how to disable any categories they don’t want or disable all the categories if they don’t want any.

This type of thing happens alot with many new programs which has new features, where in alot of cases users don’t always read all the options on the install. They then contact either the official support or their community afterwards to see how to disable features they don’t want.

Ps In alot of cases with V10 upgrades and brand new V10 installs, users i know “are very happy the new Categories” and wouldn’t have been able to use them “if they were disabled in Settings by default”, as per they never go into Settings as are basic users and are worried about playing with anything, and only go into Settings when are advised by IT peeps to avoid any issues.
