On the right hand pane the message(s) themselves are shown.
They can be grouped.
Preferences -> E-Mail -> Conversations -> Group conversations
Can the order be reversed, to show the new ones first?
In this screenshot the red arrow shows the order now:

I proposed the same idea last year. Unfortunately there was no interest. Hope you have better luck. 
Is there a possibility in the grouping to have displayed the latest email at the top?
Here is a screenshot to depict the problem, since the old one was lost in migrating this forum.
In a conversation with more mails it gets even more confusing, since they are all cluttered and not even chronological.
