Shared IMAP folder not displaying

How can you subscribe/display shared IMAP folders (they are nested)?
This is the only issue I currently have with eM client.

Hi, you can hide/show IMAP folder if you right click on that folder and select from these options “show, show when unread, hide” or on account email address in left side bar and select “Hide/show folders”.

Folder subscription is not implemented.

I know but the shared IMAP folder does not show in this list!
(Its working with Tunderbird)

Hi, do you see that shared folder on your webmail server?

Jan

Yes I do - it’s working, it’s just not showing on eM Client

Then go to tools - settings - advanced, check IMAP under your account, apply and restart eM Client.

Simulate steps that leads to your issue and after that send logs… to [email protected] together with this topic’s URL in subject.

then you can turn logging off.

same here

I have received and forwarded your logs to developers.

I had the same problem with Cyrus-IMAPd 2.4.12 in Precise Pangolin (Ubuntu 12.04 LTS Server).
Found a way to work around the short comings of eM Client.
Simply instructed Cyrus IMAPd to NOT announce the XLIST capability in it’s greeting via imapd.conf directive:

suppress_capabilities: XLIST

hope this helps someone somewhere
I have not tested what the implications in terms of performance of eM Client and my other clients are.

Matthias

Hi,
the same issue bites me too.
Beside every users personal INBOX, we have several shared folders in different namespaces.
We have even users sharing their INBOX or subfolders of INBOX with other users.
None of those folders show up in eM Client 6.0.20320.0 or previous versions.
The server is running cyrus-imapd-2.4.17.

The hint given by Matthias Bitterlich isn’t working in our case. It doesn’t matter if XLIST is enabled or disabled on the server side, shared folders outside of the users INBOX are completely ignored by eM Client.
Out of eM Clients IMAP log, i can see that the NAMESPACE command returns all available namespaces correct, but eM Client is just selecting the INBOX namespace and ignoring the others.

For more details (log) please see my post here:

This problem is really annoying and i hope that it gets addressed in the next releases of eM Client.

Kind regards
Joerg

Hi again Joerg, the default configuration of your imap server is not supported with shared imap folders, however I’ve discussed this issue with the developers and some alternative settings of your server should make this work.

This might help you configuring the alternative that should be supported… http://cyrusimap.org/docs/cyrus-imapd/2.4.7/altnamespace.php

Thank you,
Paul.

I’m really shocked! A mail client that doesn’t support IMAP in a correct way is simply useless. Considering that this is a product you have to pay for it’s just embarassing. Cheap excuses are not a good option for serious developers IMO. Every other Client does it right. Why don’t you? It doesn’t make sense to wait for ‘user votes’ on that ‘feature’. Do it properly or don’t do it at all.

Just my 2 cents.

+1 for IMAP public folders and folder subscription

Hello Hans, you suggested all mail clients do this, I’d like to say that this is not true. eM Client is built with patience and is made to be as quick as possible and still kept as low weight as possible. I can assure you that IMAP synchronisation is done properly, there’s of course many features that email protocols support and we don’t, but unfortunately it’s not possible to develop them all immediately.

By providing feedback you can help us pointing us in the right direction and deciding which features we should work on next. But if you have a more capable and reliable email client, I can’t make you stay.

Regards,

P.S. folder subscription has been recently introduced for Exchange accounts, IMAP folders can be shared amongst users if the mail server supports it.

Blablabla. No deal for you. Simple as that.

Are there any news on this topic? With the current EM Client version it is still not possible to access shared folders. This is an important issue. Also, it is not possible to subscribe to folders and subfolders.
The workarounds work partially only, as I do not want to subscribe to all shared folders but only to specific ones.
When will EM Client be fully IMAP compatible?
Greetings
