Sent folder failed synchronization

Hello, I installed eM Client about a month ago and it worked like a song. Until now. I used to simply press ‘Reply’ and then ‘Send’ and the copy of the email would save in the ‘Sent’ folder and on the server. But now it doesn’t do it. For some reason, it created a separate folder ‘Sent’ (another one) and now saves my sent mail there. It displays a red exclamation mark. The same thing now happens to my trash and drafts. I don’t understand what’s going on and how to fix it. It is highly inconvenient not to have all folders synchronization as now I dont see sent emails on my phone or tablet… as they are not saved on the server.

Please, HELP!!! I am not very advanced in such things.

Many thanks,

Irina

Hello Irina,
sound like the set up of your folders changed on the server and since eM Client couldn’t automatically find them, it created new instances of them (which cannot be synchronized though).
Right click your Sent folder (the one without Exclamation mark) and choose Properties. In the General information, there is a Location: field. That is the location of your folder on the server.

Mine is straightforward, so it is recognized automatically, but the location can be along the way of ‘Inbox.Sent’ or something similar. (It’s just the part of the location after your email account)
Then you need to go to Tools>Accounts and IMAP tab of your account. Scroll down to ‘Special folders’, uncheck the Automatic detection of special folder names and paste the correct folder Locations here.

Hopefully this will solve your problem. If not, let me know.

Olivia

Thank you Olivia,

I did what you said. My Sent folder is really Inbox.Sent as you said. However, after all the steps, eM Client created yet another separate folder for my mailbox which it called ‘Inbox.Sent’…and now it saves all my sent mail there. Instead of the initial intended ‘Sent’ (without any exclamation marks). I am a bit frustrated. Shall I just uninstall the programme and re-install it back again? Will it detect the new server folders automatically in this case? I am not very computer savvy to come up with anything else. Many thanks, Irina

Hello Irina,
eM Client will not be able to detect the special folders if they are under Inbox.
If you can move the Special folders separately on your server out of the Inbox then eM Client will detect them, but not all mail servers allow this.
It is rather strange that this procedure did not work for you though, because if you followed my instructions, that should just rename the Folder that already exists, not create a new one. Can you screenshot the IMAP tab (the same as I showed you) with the changed folder locations for me, please, so I can check how you set it up?

Regards,
Olivia

Hello Olivia,

Here are two screenshots.

The first one showing the properties of the Sent folder (the original one without exclamation marks)…and the second one is the Tools-Accounts-IMAP.

Thank you very much for your help.

Hello Irina,
use just the folder location after your email account. Not ‘irina…com/Inbox.Sent’ but only ‘Inbox.Sent’

Olivia

Hello Olivia,

I did try doing this before and it didn’t work. But strangely, it does work now. My eM Client updated soon after my initial failed attempts. Maybe it was a factor. But now it works, yes. :)

I am happy

Many thanks for your help!
