New wifi - no emails

I’ve changed wifi but nothing else, and em client is not working any more.  I get a message:
“An attempt to connect failed.  This could be due to temporary server unavailability or incorrect settings.”
I’m getting emails on my phone so not a server problem.
I haven’t changed any settings.
Help!!!

Go to Menu > Tools > Accounts and check your account settings.

SMTP

Port 587 = Force usage of SSL/TLS
Port 25 = Use SSL/TLS if available

IMAP
Port 993 = Use SSL/TLS on special port (legacy)
Port 143 = Use SSL/TLS if available

POP3
Port 995 = Use SSL/TLS on special port (legacy)
Port 110 = Use SSL/TLS if available

These are the correct combinations of port and security policy. The underlined ones are the best option for security if your server supports them, so try those first. SMTP port 465 was reassigned and should no longer be used for SMTP, though many mail providers still recommend and use it. If you want to use port 465, the security policy should be set to Use SSL/TLS on special port (legacy)

If that does not work, disable your anti-virus application, then try again.

Thank you for your help.

I use IMAP, and my IMAP and SMTP settings were the underlined ones you provided, which I have had since i moved to EMclient at least a year ago.  I have used these at a variety of locations with different wifi systems since then without any difficulty until now.  I tried all combinations of the settings you give without success.

Baffling!

Any other suggestions welcome

I am having the same problem.Just started an hour ago…My account settings are fine. I disabled anti-virus. Still nothing. I dont think the problem is on the user side.

Is your wifi connected to the Internet?

Who is your email provider?

Yes., no problem.  I can read my emails using web based server.

Yahoo

BT mail (@btinternet.com)

Did you disable your anti-virus application?

Yes. No change.

Can you ping the BT server?

Open a command prompt and type ping mail.btinternet.com

You should either get
Pinging mail.btinternet.bt.lon5.cpcloud.co.uk [65.20.0.43] with 32 bytes of data:
Reply from 65.20.0.43: bytes=32 time=187ms TTL=238

or  something like

Ping request could not find host mail.btinternet.com

Yes, get that except time=103ms TTL = 242

Is your phone using the same wifi, or is it using the mobile provider’s data connection?

Email works on my phone just using the same wifi as I am using on PC - data roaming turned off (I am currently in the US)

I changed the POP3 and SMTP  to " use these credentials" . entered my password on each and 'bingo" …back to normal.

Not sure why that is not working Catherine. Sometimes when it was working on your home wifi but not on another, it is because of the port and security policy. For example, accessing the server from the BT connection at home might work with an unsecured port, but that definitely would not work using another network. With the underlined option I gave, which you already have, it should work.

One thing you can check is that you have the same sever name in eM Client, to what you have on your phone. As far as I know it should be mail.btinternet.com. If the phone has something different, use that server name in eM Client as well.

Shortly after this, my internet connection stopped working altogether, and I ended up re-installing Windows from scratch.  I thought this might be the problem,  but no.  All else is working well, but eMclient is still giving the same message.

(My server name is indeed mail.btinternet.com.)

I will just have to give up on eMclient, and stick to web-based mail for now.

I’ve even tried uninstalling the software, removing all the existing directories and starting from scratch.  It sets up the account with the settings you listed, but still doesn’t work.

But thank you for your assistance.
