Mail signatures should be appended, not top posted.

Hi,

Netiquette implies that the mail signature should be at the bottom of the original text in a Reply or Forward, not at the top.

Please add an option to select the placement.

Actually Netiquette [1] itself doesn’t talk about top-posting or bottom-posting.

We are considering to include the following an option for replies:

  • Include the original text on the top
  • Include the original text on the bottom
  • Not include the original text at all

I received a mail that doesn’t seem to be included here. This is the text:

I sit corrected. I think these options are fantastic. Thanks.

Hey Filip, I was wondering if the options have been added. I cant find them in the client. If they have been added, could you please let me know where to find them? Thanks.

Is this option already implemented?

Still looking for the ability to bottom-post.

BTW, Filip, Netiquette actually DOES talk about bottom-posting on email lists:

3.1.1 General Guidelines for mailing lists and NetNews

  • If you are sending a reply to a message or a posting be sure you
summarize the original at the top of the message, or include just
enough text of the original to give a context.

Any updates on the implementation of this?

Hello,
unfortunately this is not implemented yet. It is on our todo list and you can expect this feature in couple of months.

Hi George

I’m used to top posting and bottom signature. I just had to send an apology to the IETF http wg because when I enabled my sig, and replied to a message, it put the sig first thing (because I replied inside the text). So it just looked like an ad.

If placement will be optional in terms of where to reply, I’d suggest separate control over sig location.

Currently I either have to turn off the sig, or not do interleaved replies, or manually move the signature…

Hello! Do you want to wait another year for implement bottom-posting possibility? Make that at last, please!

It should be finally implemented in the upcoming version 6.

And when that version 6 will be released?
And what is so difficult to made bottom-posting option anyway?
I’m waiting for this option before I even start to using it in my office.

You can expect it in 2-3 months.

By the way, I have a workaround for this in the existing client. Not ideal but it stops me getting into trouble.

Setup templates for the different mail types: New, Reply, Forward. New has the signature, reply and forward don’t, this way I don’t repeat my signature in the wrong place.

HTH.

Hmmm, really? But no, seriously - do you know when?

HEllo,

6th version should be out until end of autumn, probably in November.

with regards
Jan

Has this actually been implemented in Version 6? I can’t find such an option.

Me too, so I switch to different, proper email client.

Hi Franciszek,

Probably not the right place to ask this, but what is the proper email client you switched to? Every once in a while I look at alternatives, but I can’t find anything that has the gmail integration and other features that I like.

Regards.

This is humourous to me, as I just switched to eM Client from Opera 12 yesterday since it seems to be the closest thing to a “proper” e-mail client out there for Windows. Also because it supports CardDAV and CalDAV, which I have set up on a private server.I’d love to know what other people qualify as better.
