lost all personal folders and Windows Reset

I was forced to do a Windows “reset” and lost quite a few files and programs.  Em Client was the most important one that I lost.  I was able to easily re-install the program but apparently I lost all of the 20 or so personal folders.  Does anyone have any ideas?  I have restored my files from my Carbonite cloud backup but it did not restore the personal folders.

Usually when you do a Windows reset, you end up with a folder called C:\Windows.old. That folder contains all your data from the previous Windows installation.

The following procedure will replace your current database with the old one, so if there is any new local data you need to keep, export it before you do this.

With eM Client closed, copy the contents of C:\Windows.old\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\eM Client\ folder to C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\eM Client\ replacing the destination.

Start eM Client and make regular backups using eM Client’s own automatic backup facility.

Carbonite cannot sync the database files while eM Client is open. All you end up with are empty files with no data as you discovered.

At first I could not find “Appdata”  until I realized that it was probably a hidden file.  Once I got that back your fix was perfect.  Thanks so much.  Fran

Windows 10 probably updated and wiped the personal folders on mine. I don’t have a Window.old file. Where can I find the folders and what extension are they. Also they were not likely backed up

But I will add that the sidebar alerts did show them, All folders are gone

Unfortunately if you don’t have a Windows.old folder, and you don’t have a backup, then you have lost the data that is not synced with your mail server.
