Evidently EM creates a single *.dat file in the nominated storage area.
I have this folder under the ‘local folders’ tree. Is it possible to have each
sub-folder as a separate file ?
reason - these files are going to get quite large over time (and ultimately become archives). As for PST files it would then be good to have a separate file (with “actual folder name”.dat filename) for each folder to stop a single folder from getting too large in size.
I am afraid that I don’t understand. You have moved your database to different location (in default there will be one small file pointing to the new location) and now it has created only one file instead of same structure as it has been in default location?
If so can I ask to make print screen of this behaviour with viewable path to database?
I wish to use Local Mail Folders (ie. under Local Folders) to archive mail. However it would seem that when I create a new folder under ‘local folders’ (in the Mail explorer tree) I do not get a new dat. Thus presume that for EM mail client default all mail is stored in one dat file - is that the case ?.

No, this is not possible, all data are stored in one database and we are not going to change this.
It is how eM Client is designed from beginning and changing this would completely destroy our workflow.
John, you did not answer the most important part of DLF’s question. Can you have a Local Folder act/behave local only. NO SYNCHRONIZATION, for archive management purposes. I explain the importance:
In MS Outlook you can save/export emails, notes, contacts, or all the above together in a folder, a subfolder or a collection of subfolders, to a .pst file which could be used for archival purposes, reduce bulk in the client etc. This is mighty handy on project work. One can take that .pst file (when the project is done, for instance) and store it anywhere on the computer. I have a %/My Documents/Email folder where I have my yearly archives.
The other day I needed some info from an email in my Archive2011.pst. When I was using MS Outlook I would point it to open the Archive2011.pst external data file. It would display along the folders for my my various email accounts, and I could navigate its structure for emails, notes, calendar entries, contacts, etc. I could search by keyword, date etc., pull the info, forward or attach the mail to another and then close the external folder and proceed with my streamlined current 2013 .pst database.
When I attempted to do the same on EM Client, which is currently managing my gmail messages, the Local Folder synchronized with Gmail and now I have 2GB more data on Gmail synchronizing while I was looking for my message. It slowed performance considerably. Plus the annoyance that I did not want google to have all my private email that was not gmail in the first place…
So, is it possible to have a Local Folder behave local, without synchronization which in my case is Big Google? If so, how?
i have the same requirement, i am testing eM Client as a replacement to Outlook 2010 (too many issues with the winmail.dat file). My current PST file for archives is 16 gigs, I have it store on an SD card that I connect to my Ultrabook. Something I can’t do with eMC - the size of the file created by importing PST archive to mail.dat file would be so large my SSD disk would be full. One thing I will try later today is create a 2nd account in eMC and try to get that one in a different folder than the “live/synced” exchange account. I hope this would allow me to have a fast live account on the computer and an archive account on an sd card. I will see the options for moving mail from one place to the other later and report back here.
