Issue during Import of settings.xml from previous version

Hi All,

I am evaluating eM Client and have encountered many issues/niggles but due to the kind assistance of Gary Curtin I am persevering!

As part of this I have my first install on v7.0.27943.0 as that PC wont run v7.1 without freezing on opening (unknown why as yet). But, it appears, several of the issues I am having with it seem to relate to things that are either fixed in later releases or I cannot find so I guess Gary is referring to newer features! I have now installed the latest release v7.1.32561.0 on another PC successfully to test and am therefore trying to copy the settings from one machine to another.

Gary explained that I can export the settings as an XML file which I have done from the v7.0 PC successfully. However, on import on the v7.1 PC I get the error “The format of XML file is newer than the version of application…”

The XML export from v7.0 looks to be formatted correctly and starts with the lines:

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>

To look for differences, I did an export from the v7.1 to see and it looks like this:

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>

So the newer app version has a later format version but amending the older export to version 3 did not alter the error.

Anyone have an idea what the issue is? Many thanks in advance,

Nick

Because some changes were made to the database structure in 7.1, the xml file is not compatible across the versions.

If you want a complete duplicate of the 7.0 client, close both eM Clients and copy the whole C:\Users[username]\AppData\Roaming\eM Client\ folder across. When you restart the 7.1 client, you will be prompted to update the database to the new format.

Thanks Gary, that worked a treat… also saved a lot of syncing emails over the internet too! There were no obvious signs of updating the db though, it literally just started up identical to the other one.

Glad it is working out for you. :slight_smile:
