Imported messages in unread but not in folders

I’ve used the file/Import function to import Live mail folders and also outlook express folders. They show up in the Smart Folders/unread, but are no where to be found when I look for folders. I’m also afraid they are bloating my database when i use other methods of copying them like dragging EML files. How can I solve this?

Can you see your Local Folders? They are probably there.

Go to Menu > Tools > Settings > General > Show Local Folders, if they are not visible.

I had local folders checked. On closer examination, I could see all the missing folders, but they were blank, yet I noticed they had the arrow next to them indicating there was a sub folder. Strangely each sub folder had a blank name but there were emails in the blank named folders, So I moved the emails from the blank folder into the correct folder and did this for all 20 folders - so problem solved.

That still doesn’t explain what happened to the other folders I imported and couldn’t find the messages for. Maybe it just malfunctioned. Can there be hidden folders taking up space in my database? Or do they all show up somewhere in the folder tree?

Definitely a hiccup in the import. If there are any folders still missing, you could import them individually.

There is the Deduplicator function (Menu > Tools > Deduplicator) that can help you remove duplicate messages that could be taking up space. These could be there if you tried multiple times to import, or drag-and-drop. Other than that, the Trash could be taking up space.

It is unlikely that if Local Folders are visible, that there could be unseen folders elsewhere. You could manually run the repair function just to make sure the database has no errors. Close eM Client and run C:\Program Files (x86)\eM Client\DbRepair.exe

Great advice, Gary. I’m so glad I made this transition, I’m liking eM Client more and more. Thanks for your excellent support!
