From reading the forum, it appears that many people (like me) have had difficulty in connecting to the SMTP server. I discovered that it’s actually pretty simple!
The automated setup does not give you access to an SMTP tab in your account settings if it is not successful in contacting the server. For example, if it tries the wrong port, it just gives up instead of asking you to supply the correct port.
The manual setup process is almost as bad.Once again, if it does not attempt to use the correct port, it says the connection failed and that all of its fixes failed, too. What you need to do is to accept the poor setup as is – so that it will at least give you an SMTP tab to work with – and then finish the installation.
After that, you can finally see the SMTP tab and put in the correct port number. A simple statement to that effect in the setup routine would save a whole lot of time and headache!
Yes, when you finally get to see the SMTP tab, you can change the port. Unfortunately, you only see the tab after all attempts to contact the SMTP server have failed and you have agreed to setup the account even though there’s a message that says something like “it probably will not work.”:
Every other email client I’ve seen has the option of changing the port during the setup process, not just after the process has failed.
Hi, what mail service are you using and what version of eM Client are you currently using?
Can you make a screenshot of your IMAP settings from the Tools > Accounts > Your Account > IMAP tab.
I see nothing has changed in 3 years - same problem, eM Client automatically tests outgoing mail server using different port numbers, but still fails. Then you can manually change the port number in the SMTP tab and, hey presto, it works.
Clearly, Jan your software needs further examination…
