How can I configure eM Client to save replies in the same folder as the original message?

You can probably tell I am coming from Outlook…

Anyway, this is an important feature for me.

How are you guys handling this? Are you actually going to the Sent folder every time after you sent an email and copy it back to the corresponding project folder? I doubt it. So whats the point of having folders, then? I mean if only half the emails are in it (the received ones) and the other half in the Sent folder (the sent ones)? I don’t get it.

Please help.

Hello,

you can use Tools - Rules and setup there what you want to do with email after send.

Jan

Ok I will give that a try later tonight.

I am sorry but please do not just suggest something lightly. I just wasted another half hour trying to follow this advice and then posting back here. I started to create a rule to move a sent message to a folder. The problem is the destination folder. I found that it is only possible to select a static folder destination, not something like “the folder of the message that I am replying to”.

Hello,

There is no other way how to setup, you can use for every email account or address specific rules. Dynamic rules are not planed in close future.

I don’t want dynamic rules anyway, I want a checkmark in the settings that says “save replies in same folder as original message” (as in Outlook).

Hello,

unfortunately this is not planned, but you can make “Idea” topic for this feature, if enough people will request this then it will be done.

Jan

Why don’t you make it? (or convert this question on an idea or whatever)

Done

I am a paying customer. Is this available as a feature yet or do I need to create a rule? I can’t find it in the eMClient sending options. The outlook option is circled in the attached image. Can we have this feature soon please?

Hi,

this looks like a some sort of conversation (threaded) view, we are planning to implement this, but because of technical difficulties it was unfortunately postponed to future version/s or updates.

Now I can’t give you any exact date when this will/could be done.

with regards
Jan

Thanks Jan. I’m not a programmer but I think this is something different to a conversation view. This is saving a copy of the reply to the folder in which the received message is stored. Whether the messages in that folder are viewed as conversation or an individual messages is a different issue.

Hope you can escalate it somehow. I’ve been waiting on you guys for so long that I took a temporary trip back to Outlook recently out of frustration. But Outlook is slow slow in IMAP that I couldn’t bear it.

It is not conversation view but it is needed for it, at least in eM Client’s design yes. So unfortunately it will take some time before it will be implemented.

Jan

Wow, how can you have an email client and not save the sent email with its original. This should be default behavior. Please add this feature soon!

Thanks,
Steven

Hi, if you need to see all your communication between the sender and the recipient you can use showing the communication history for the contact.
Just right click the contact and click on Communication history.

Hope this helps.

Thank you,
Paul.

Bumping this topic…
Just coming over from Thunderbird which also has the option to save replies in the folder as the original message. I love your software but this is really something that I miss.
Don’t like conversation view BTW. Just want replies in the same folder…
Can you please add it?

Hi Ton, thank you for your feedback regarding this feature, we’ll consider adding the feature to future releases. You might find Rules useful, as by using rules you can move every message you send (with a specified criteria) to a specified folder, which could provide a temporary solution for your issue.

Hope this helps,
Paul.

Hi Paul,
That would be great news.
The temporary solution is absolutely useless, because you can only tell the system to store them in one specified folder. Storing them in another folder just means that another folder becomes the Sent Items folder…
Cheers,Ton

Hi Ton, you can setup more rules with more criteria to specify in which case the message is moved where.

Thank you,
Paul.

Hi Paul,
Mmm, interesting. But can I create a rule that says. “When the received mail is in folder A, place the reply that I sent also in folder A”?
