How to make the text darker.

I’m trying to make the text larger and darker on both my Inbox and when I open an email to read. I went to the setting and to read to reset them. I change the how I want it to look and click OK then apply. Nothing changes. What do I need to do.

Changing the Read settings will not usually affect the message body when you are viewing the message as HTML. This is the default view.

If you change the view to plain text, you might have better luck.

The problem then is that you will lose most of the formatting of the message as intended by the sender.

The format of the text in the message list can be changed in the Appearance section.

This did not help. Made the lists on left side bigger. Made your email all messed up. Thanks for trying.

The list on the left is called the message list. That is changed in Menu > Tools > Settings > Appearance > Lists. (see the screenshot above)

The message body CANNOT be changed in settings if you are viewing your message in HTML. Change your view to plain text (see screenshot above) and the settings you choose in Menu > Tools > Settings > Mail > Read > Preferred Style will be applied.

Gary, I guess I should have said folders on left side, like Inbox, Sent, Junk. Which setting change their size. Does the read setting under Mail deal with the size and darkness of the inbox on main and body of the mail.

Thanks Gery

"I should have said folders on left side, like Inbox, Sent, Junk" There is no setting to change that, but it is possible to export and then edit the Theme file.

“Does the read setting under Mail deal with the size and darkness of the inbox on main and body of the mail”. This only affects the message body when viewed as plain text.

This helps some. What part of Appearance List changes the format of incoming mail.

Will this change all incoming mail or will some be unable to read.

Thanks Gary

No, Appearance > List changes the message list, not the message body.

Mail > Read changes the body. If the incoming message is in HTML, this setting probably won’t change it. If the message is viewed in plain text, then the settings will be applied.

The whole purpose of HTML formatted messages is that you should see the message as the sender intended.

Gary, I’m not a programmer, but why can’t this be fixed to work in HTML. Us older  people need to be able to in large or darken mail to be able to read it. This would be appreciated.

Thanks

If you are having issues with the size of the message body, you can zoom in or out.

Use Ctrl + , and Ctrl -

That will work with both HTML and plain text messages alike.
