How do I change my ATT.net email password in emclient?

I’ve changed my att.net email password, now emclient does not work. Keep getting a big Yahoo pop-up to enter new password, but that redirects me to att.net where I"ve already set a new password. It’s a rabbit hole. No place to change setting in emclient settings->account.

Not talking about the emclient password to open the app.

Thanks for any info.

I guess your account is setup with 0Auth; that means there is no password stored in eM Client. That is the whole point of 0Auth.

It may be waiting for a pop-up from your browser, which you are not seeing. Go to Windows settings and make sure you have selected a default browser, then try again. Any password you need to change will be in the web interface for your provider.

I probably was not clear. Chrome has been default  browser from day one in 2015 (Win10 release). Here’s the sequence:

  1. 3-4 days ago life is good, email working fine in eMC, att webmail, iPhone, iPad. No password changes for a month or so.
  2. Suddenly 2 days ago in eMC I get huge Yahoo pop-up saying I need to authenticate with my Yahoo password for my daily email addr. or create a new Yahoo acct. Not my legacy att one from 20 yrs ago which is my “main” one that forwards to my daily att addr. This is beyond bizarre since ATT and Yahoo are now divorced and I have not used yahoo.com email for 20 yrs. But in further clicking I end up on a real ATT change password page, so it must be legit. Very confusing for ATT to still reference Yahoo while telling us to login with att.net, not yahoo.com (which still works oddly).
  3. I finally cave and within att.net create a new att password for the daily acct. The process seems happy for a few steps then crashes midway and freezes my browser. I mutter a swear word then go have a beer.
  4. From my beer location in recliner, I then enter this new password in my iPad and to my astonishment it works, proving the change password process succeeded in spite of the hang.
  5. Back at the PC I log in to att webmail and it works there too. Ditto for iPhone 4 (I don’t like change).
  6. Back to eMC and I still get the Yahoo pop-up and no new email since this started 2 days ago. It freezes eMC such that I only have 2-3 seconds from dismissing the pop-up to get into settings->accounts to try to reset password, BUT THERE’S NO PASSWORD SETTING! I could have sworn there was a place to enter a password under General or IMAP.

How do I tell eMC I have a new ATT password?  Maybe delete then recreate account and it finds it automatically? If I do that will my local folders survive?

I’m on the latest rev 7 eMC.

PS: thanks for the fast reply!  I’m muddling along with ATT webmail at present and not happy.

If Yahoo! is using 0Auth, which I think it is, then there IS NO PASSWORD in eM Client. That is the way that authentication works.

Check with your provider and see if you are using an app password for eM Client. They may be able to assist you further.

If all else fails, remove the Yahoo! account from eM Client, then add it again.

OK, thanks Gary. Will try the remove acct path. Calling ATT is usually a 45min exercise in futility.

Just did as suggested and it worked! Did not even have to delete old acct, just disabled it by unchecking boxes and created a new one in non auto mode to get IMAP. Auto mode defaults to POP3.

Pesky Yahoo password pop-up gone!!! Problem could  have been they recently changed password rules that a password can not contain a segment of or be similar to the userID (email addr). My p/w was the same with some digits on the end.

Thank you!

PS: while the free eMC only allows 2 active accounts, I find you can have more just lurking in the background but disabled. My two active ones are for 1) IMAP/SMTP, 2) iCloud for calendar/contacts syncing.  Works seamlessly with iPhone/iPad.

The limit of the Free License applies to email accounts. Have not tried it in ages, but it used to be that you could have 2 email accounts, and any number of calendar/contacts etc.

What version of eM Client are you using EJP? The option to disable an account was removed with the release of version 7.
