emclient is not downloading email from bt

emclient does not download email from bt, it is trying and has the 3 dots in the shaded box
other folders work ok
diagnostics says ther is no problem
any ideas please?

You might try contacting BT. Otherwise, disable your anti-virus application and see if there is any difference.

It worked yesterday and thee has been no change to antivirus and works on my iphone
All the other folders synk ok

Maybe a temporary issue over at BT?

You can look in the error log, Menu > Tools > Operations, and see if there is any error.

here is what the log says
(IMAP) Cannot open folder “[email protected]/Outbox/”.(CLIENTBUG)
SELECT Additional Arguments found after last expected argument)

This is happening on all my folders in the email address

As it is an IMAP account, you could remove it from eM Client, then add it again. See if anything changes.

Jusrt ran diagnostics no problem
Test email tries to download but all you get is the 3 dots in the shaded box

Nice one Gary reloaded and nothing happens account does not get downloaded

And you are getting the same error in the log?

running diag both imap and smtp fails
funny it works on an iphone and on a microsdoft surface
why did it say clientbug?

Disable your anti-virus application and then try again.

I think that CLIENTBUG has to do with account settings. Maybe someone can comment on that.

Go to Menu > Tools > Accounts and check the IMAP and SMTP settings.

SMTP
Port 587 = Force usage of SSL/TLS
Port 25 = Use SSL/TLS if available
Port 465 = Use SSL/TLS on special port (legacy)

IMAP
Port 993 = Use SSL/TLS on special port (legacy)
Port 143 = Use SSL/TLS if available

These are the correct combinations of port and security policy. The underlined ones are the best option for security if your server supports them. SMTP port 465 was reassigned and should no longer be used for SMTP, though many mail providers still recommend and use it.

it was working on  25 and 993

The security policy is also important, so make sure you have the correct one for the port.

they are correct as set up originally and working

the problem is in v7 as it works in v6 thats why its saying (CLIENTBUG)

Glad everything is working now.

no its not working in 7 but works in 6 its an emclient bug

I have got it working going back to a older version of 7
do you work for emclient?

No Brian, I’m just another user. If you want support from eM Client, you will need to open a support ticket with them.

eM Client has an override for BTInternet accounts that uses a preconfigured setup. Setting up the account using the Automatic Setup should work just fine in the current release. If it is still not working with your anti-virus application disabled, please provide a screenshot of your account settings.

Hi Brian,

Sorry to butt in, but have you followed the BT Internet recommendations?
That’s the first source…

Setting up BT Email
https://bt.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/9962/c/7339

What are the settings for outgoing and incoming BT Email servers?
https://bt.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/44917/related/1

IMAP settings

Incoming Mail Server : mail.btinternet.com

Port : 993 (this should be automatically populated by selecting the SSL encryption)

SSL Encryption : Enabled (but not STARTTLS)

Username : your email address including the @btinternet or @btopenworld.com part

Password : your btinternet or btopenworld password

Root folder/path :

Folder separator : . (full stop)

Please do  NOT  enable “secure password authentication” (SPA). It’s not needed when you use SSL encryption and won’t work.

If your IMAP client supports it, we recommend you also set up the following folders:

  • Trash
  • Sent Items
  • Drafts

SMTP settings
Outgoing Mail Server: mail.btinternet.com

Port: 465 (this may not be automatically populated on selecting SSL, so you’ll need to check)

SSL Encryption: Enabled (but not STARTTLS)

Authentication: PLAIN

Username: your email address including the @btinternet or @btopenworld.com part

Password: your btinternet or btopenworld password

After that, if still no luck, tweak security as as Gary indicated in his post
