eM Client 3.5 Release Candidate is here

We are proud to announce that eM Client is now available in version 3.5 and we’ll officially launch the version next week.

Still fail to save local calender minimized state.

Can this be installed over the top of V3, or is a clean install recommended?

The installation will automate the process. Your database will be upgrade to the new version as well.

Activ calendar can’t be unchecked.

When you have two or three month in the Calender-overview in the panel,
it’s switched back to one month again like shown 4 postings above.

Still Missing features:
Shortcut for “mark folder as read”

Still no file attachments for templates (e.g. pdf files) - I can drag&drop it to the editor but it seems it drops in a very deep black hole…

New drafts still marked as “read” and not bold as “new”

No “page setting” dialog for prints of meesages - for calendar it is available

Missing button on address bar to switch between “HTML / Plain text” for incoming messages - If I select “read all messages as plain” at settings dialog sometimes I’d like to simple switch to html for advanced reading of this one email

Background colour of an character can be set only at template editor - at message composer it’s not possible to add/change/delete the background just for the current email.

Not working features:
The program language settings are not correct - if I use a different windows system language that I’ve selected at the emClient some dialogs are shown in Windows language and not in the emClient language - also the calendar weekday names

Templates still not working for SMAPI messages

Printout of messages are still wrong (no borders, no word wrap at right end of a page)

Printout of the calendar gets some wrong prints - if the calendars colour is to dark and the font of the events entry will be set automated to white - the print of the month view contains “emtpy” events

If I remove a template by click on the “remove” button and press cancel on the templates setting dialog the removed template is still deleted and so the “remove” will not be cancelled.

Please follow these steps to find the bug:
Set a new event to a local calendar
Edit the event again by changing the account name to an another calendar on the scheduling tabsheet - invite the second attendee
Move the event now to an another account on the left pane…
Can you do the last step?
I’m not, if I cross the border between the main window and the left pane I get a new dialog and lost the drop function on the cursor.

Questions:
How can I subscribe IMAP folders I’d like to see - not just all?

The list of shortcuts isn’t complete right? e.g. “CTRL+Return” sends the current message at the composer without a warning immediately!

It should work. Is there any checked calendar inside local folders? In that case it is expanded automatically.

After many discussions we decided not to allow selected but unchecked folders, because it confuses the users. So we changed the behavior in v. 3.5 in that way. It is more standard behavior, on the other we know that it is a change from our previous versions.

Yeah right, we’ll target this issue in future updates. We won’t make it for the first version of 3.5.

This new behavior isn’t really good - I think.
As example:
I have 4 calendars - 3 of them are checked and 1 not.
If I click on the unchecked calendar the emClient unchecked all other selected calendars and select just the current one.

So I have to check my favored again each time after I just looked in one unchecked calendar.

In case the emClient changes my favored settings for the moment, it needs to be changed back by emClient after… or the current calendar will just be checked and do not affect my other settings.

I prefer the previous version - it was really nice and simple to show just for a few seconds an add. calendar!

  • Yes, this is not supported, I am adding this to our feature requests section. Only images are supported in templates currently.

  • We’ll probably don’t add this button, because we want to keep UI simple and this function will be used by minority of our users. Maybe some context menu item…

  • This is intended behavior, because culture for text and calendar formating is not the same thing as localization. For exaple users from countries to which eM Client is
    not localized still want to see localized calendar (like days of the week), because these settings can be read from OS. By the way Outlook behaves completely the same way.

  • Once again, we use IE for printing. We plan to improve it (print preview etc, but it is not a trivial task, so it won’t be there for 3.5)

  • This bug is now fixed and will be fixed with the final version of 3.5.

  • Thanks for reporting, we’ll try to make the list more complete and yes ctrl-return sends a message immediately.

Sorry we don’t use M$ IE - so we can’t setup easy the page settings for printing - if I try this I get a lot of dialogs at the IE and many questions…

But it is very simple to use/update these settings from emClient. The IE page settings are stored at the registry and can be used/updated by any other program.
It’s the same for XP and Win7 - a short old description you will find at M$ kb Q311280 or kb 313723 for .net applications.

A simple UI is nice and I like it, but for the security it will be at best to read as standard all message as plain text and just for safe messages keep it simple to switch to html - with one click

A standalone tool for the templates is ok, but what does the “cancel” do here? The only thing I can do at this dialog is add/modify/delete of a template.
If the “OK” and “Cancel” button means both the same please replace both with one “close” button - that’s a simple UI ;-)).

ad printing options) we know that it is not a perfect solution and we will work on some improvements and yes we are aware of these registry records for page setup, the problem is we don’t want to change these settings globally from eM Client. We will try to find more elegant way, how to solve the problem.

eM Client is perfectly safe with default settings when viewing html pages, because we don’t allow any scripts, external content (like images, videos etc). Every potentially dangerous content will be shown in inforbar and will need user action to be shown.

ad cancel button) now I get the point. I think the reasonable solution for now is that we’ll replace Ok and cancel button with only button Close.

No, the local calendar is not checked. Since the first beta eM has being behaving oddly with saving state on the left panel. It took me awhile before I can even save the state of keeping Calender and Mails open.

As usual, hardcore… :smiley: I’m also annoyed that eM relies on IE for HTML rendering as well. Wish the future version would use Chrome or Firefox as HTML render engine.
