Are you excited for eM Client 7 launch? We have some good news for you, today we're releasing a beta version for public.

Check out the full announcement and DOWNLOAD the version on our blog!

You can download this new version and finally see what's new for yourself. By doing so, you can help us find a few last issues that you may come across during your use. Reporting any issues will ensure that version 7 will be in the best shape possible for the final release.

What's new
eM Client 7 has many new features that some of you have been very keen to see included and which we've written about over the last couple of months on our blog. These include conversations, delayed sending, vacation responder, support for GMail labels, new reminders, translation of incoming messages, improved performance or quick text. We've reworked most of the application's features to suit both the new interface and the new core which is now running on Chromium.

New Interface
The new version has a completely new look and feel. We've also added a few new themes including a highly requested dark theme. The new interface also has a lot of improvements for touch devices and high resolution displays.

Upgrading your version
Note that since we've rebuilt a lot of the application's core features, updating the application will migrate all your data to a new format of eM Client 7. This may take a while as the database has to be carefully exported and imported to its new model. We've added a little something to keep you busy while the migration takes place. Play a couple of minesweeper games during the update and you'll be done in no time.

Issues
In case you come across any issues with the Beta release, please make sure to report them to our support team at testing@emclient.com and we will look into each reported problem thoroughly.

Installed it. Checked for PGP encryption. Uninstalled it. I lost my eM Client 6 version since obviously you don't support both versions being installed in parallel. Well, who cares. No PGP encryption, no eM Client anymore.

Hi,
I'm sorry to hear that a feature that is crucial for you has not yet been implemented, but unfortunately the PGP encryption didn't make it into the beta release. However it is a planned improvement for future upgrades.
If you need to go back to version 6, you can still download the installation file for it from our website. Your database has not been deleted by the version 7 beta, so if you uninstall it and install version 6, you will have all your setups in place.

So far I really like it.  The only thing missing for me, so far, is the ability to toggle from the toolbar from plain text to HTML views and back.  Any chance something like that could be added.

For me, I prefer plain text, but some emailers still use HTML so it's nice to be able to toggle the view when needed.

thank you for the feedback. Unfortunately, changing the Plain text and HTML view from the Toolbar is currently not a planned feature.

That's the point: don't listen to your users/cutomers and I repeat myself: it takes ages to get new features into emClient.

And what's more, I told this elsewhere already: really new features in emClient v7 are missing. If I weren't a life time licensee I wouldn't update for the conversation view solely and spend again some money.

It failed to upgrade me saying path to OneDrive was invalid... so I've re-configured the accounts.
However my gmail calendar is failing with Invalid URI: The hostname could not be parsed.

thank you for reporting the counter problem.
As for your Invalid URI issue, please go to the database folder (location can be fount in Tools>Settings>General>Storage) and send the accounts.dat file to rust@emclient.com so we can try to determine what the issue is.

Was this ever figured out? I'm getting the same error for both my gmail and exchange calendars. Error is:

Are you talking about in Smart Folders?  You can disable the All Inboxes by right clicking on Smart Folders and unchecking the All Inboxes.

Hi Barbara,
unfortunately the All Mail synchronization is important for correct handling of Gmail labels.
However, if you do not wish to see this folder, you can right-click it in eM Client's folder structure and choose to Hide it.

Is anyone else have problems with the categories now being gmail labels?  I am struggling.  Now all my emails have a "Inbox" Category that over rides my category colors.  My flagged emails icons are all grey (for the Inbox).  I can't use category colors in my lists.

I have already reported it, and I hope changes can be made, but I would love some suggestions on how to work around the problem.

I'm having an issue that is a little opposite. I don't use GMail for email (as I have my own domain and server), but use it for my Calendar and Contacts. In GMail, I have multiple calendars and each set up with different color. eM Client seems to change the colors of my calendars. I will change them back to the colors that I want, but they revert to the colors that eM Client wants them to be. I'm not sure where these colors are coming from.

What were they thinking? The label-to-category association for Gmail users is both unnecessary and confusing. It breaks existing category definitions, adds categories (and associated colors/markings) where they are not wanted and has no toggles to enable/disable. Some seemly benign operations can result in unexpected mailbox operations triggering a search for relocated items (no undo). Several users have posted workarounds but they either depreciate native Gmail feature/functionality or required the user initiate manual actions to overcome a poor design. Support has yet to respond to several inquires from different posters suggesting the feature is here to stay - like it or not.

I'll add my voice to be able to turn off labels.  I use POP and have my own categories assigned but they seems to be ignored.  Example, I have an email Gmail has labeled as "Dave" in blue and I re-created my Red in EM to be "Follow" but I do not have a "Dave'. I marked an email as "Follow" (was red) that in Gmail is "Dave" (blue).

When setting up Category display in Global the only color shown is "Blue" and "Follow" isn't even an option.

We need some way to turn off Gmail labels.

I gave up and went back to version 6 for the time being.  They day I installed the Version 7 beta at lunch time, but productivity hit a huge road block.  I don't think I can go to Version 7 unless they make Gmail Labels optional.

Installed it here.  Must say I'm very happy with the long awaited conversations view.
A question please.  With this Beta version I noticed the font size on mails is very small, how can I enlarge the font?   In my case I use a big monitor with Windows 10 and display scaling to 125%.  All fonts everywhere are properly scaled (lists, groups)  but the font on mails is very small.  I think EM Client V.6 didn't have this problem.  I have already tried "Settings => Mail => Read => Preferred font for messages",    but it has no effect.

Perhaps I'm wrong about this but have you tried going to Settings/Mail/Read? Under Preferred Style you will see an option to change "Preferred font for messages" that allows you to change both the font style and the point size. Maybe that will help.

You can use CTRL-mouse Wheel to manually change the font size, however this will only work for mails that are opened on the right panel of Em Client.   If you double click and open the message in its own window then the font will be super small again which very annoying.

Some messages just refuse to be deleted.  I have one message from Twitter that says "Popular in your network".  The message is blank, EM Client won't show nothing at all.  When I try to delete it nothing happens, it's undeletable.

Another message that cannot be deleted:  one that was sent from Em CLient about a response in this blog. It displays blank and it's undeletable.

I was hoping to see an option in filters to filter based on an email address not in my contacts. It makes it so much simpler to filter to trash or junk.  Will this be added soon?

The Archive button is missing.  That was pretty useful . It should be  located between the Mark and the Delete button.

You can customize the toolbar yourself, however, I was told the archive button (if you have added it) will only work or better said appear for GMail accounts.

OTH, I too, miss a better archiving function for ages now, but I guess I won't hold my breath for getting it anytime soon.

At least v7 should now keep its archive in a dedicated database for performance improvements - did not test this though.

Hi,
the button is just as Mike above mention, you can add it in the Customize option of the top toolbar, but it will be functioning for Google accounts only, as that is the feature that their server provides and that we accommodated to. For accounts that do not provide this functionality, we are able to only provide our own Automatic Archiving function.
The database structure has indeed been changed and split into more parts for better performance.

installed beta without probs, converting from v.6 also without probs,it takes not so long
I like the new look and feel, licencing works without probs
i miss the junk button and the mailsize filter, but it is a beta...so its ok..

thank you for the feedback, but no need to be sad about the Move to junk button!
Just right-click the top toolbar and choose to Customize it. You will be able to add/remove and reorder the buttons you want to have accessible from the top toolbar here.
The mailsize filter is now only possible with the Conversations view turned off.

Just curious: I did a backup of my current v6, using menu file - backup and got a resulting zip file somewhere in my documents folder.

I fired up my Win10 VM with emClient v7 and wonder and which steps should be done to import this backup into a plain, newly installed emClient?

I've already put this zip file into the Win10 my documents folder, using the very same folder name as during the backup process (Win7) - of course this did not work in v7, using menu file - restore.

So I've unzipped this file and tried again - to no avail either.

Last step I'm considering to perform: unzip this file into %appdata%..emclient but I guess this would finally crash v7.

Hence, could you pls. give a short instruction on how to restore a backup to restore it in a VM with v7?

Hello Michael,
restoring from a ZIP file backup made in version 6 is not possible, because we made quite a few changes to the structure of the database between these versions to make it more efficient.
You'll need to restore from this backup in version 6 (to create a functioning database) and then use the option to Migrate from v6 when you set up v7.

Ok, understand so asking the other way around: Which files must be copied form my Win7 emClient to the VM running v7 beta?

Just those files below %appdata%, before running v7 for the first time and get an automatic upgrade of the databases or would it be better to install v6 in the VM, restore the backup and upgrade to v7 afterwards?


I would like to test v7 with live data instead of setting up just one out of ten accounts.

Migration from V6 to V7 keeps failing, stops always during the import of the mail files (approx. 5 GB). How can I fix this?? without my archive folder migrated, V7 is useless.

Installed it but now it is telling me my demo is expired --- I have Client 6 Pro - full paid version --- now I have to buy the program again to have functional email?????

Guess you dont' have a lifetime license, correct? So I assume you will have to buy an upgrade anytime soon. OTH licenses for v7 won't be yet available.

But this is not a live tile, right?? I was looking for a live tile, that could e.g. show upcoming appointments and the number of marked emails....

Since the company did not advertise such Win10 features for v7, I guess this is not included in the update.
Nor will emClient use those new notifications on the side bar, I bet.

Of course this would be a great feature but other features are too missing that would have making v7 a big deal.

After some testing with v7 beta and its "new" features, I came across those pros and cons so far - still counting, though:

Pros:
- Conversation view is OK
- Email aliases now can have a display name, hopefully any case sensitive e-mail addresses are now ignored within rules - did not check this myself again, have reported this issue long time ago
- It's now possible to set up Auto-BCC for each account, do not use this feature, though

Cons:
- Toolbar buttons size not adjustable, e.g. small, mid or big
- Rules still very basic, e.g. no AND/OR conditions
- Toolbar button for rule execution on account or folder is missing
- Unread counter on subfolders still not available, which means not propagated to parent folders and above
- Archiving still very basic, e.g. no customizable folder creation with timestamps, setting of archive time frames is too basic and other features are missing
- One of my greatest and simplest wish not implemented: a "do not show again" checkbox when rules are applied. Instead of this Minesweeper game, some useful things could have been done

Don't get me wrong, emClient works for me but as a long time user, I'm missing more (pro) features. I've left Thunderbird behind because of missing built-in CalDav/CardDav support and its proper implementation especially when it comes to multiple and different CalDav providers at once. However, the availbility of plugins and its rules and filtering system are way better then emClient ever had.

Unfortunately emClient developers obviously have to spend much time into fixing Google and Outlook issues solely, when watching the forums here, instead of implementing really new features.

So let's see what v8 will bring to use lifetime licensees....

I installed and tested V7 for 2 days. Everything seemed to be working just als well as V6, yet nothing really works better for me. All the new features are not anything I missed. So I went back to V6. So I won't spend my hard earned money on the upgrade (happy I haven't bought the lifetime licence).

I installed it, and it looks very nice, however my calendars, which are working fine in Client 6 (Free) are no longer showing up.  The calendar accounts/URIs are there and are correct, but no appointments or tasks from them are showing up.

On the left side of the calendar screen, make sure all your calendars have check marks on them. Expand all the pulldowns you may see as well.

Same issue here. I even tested setting up a new meeting and it briefly showed in client 7 and then it disappeared in client 7. When I checked the calendar in my browser access (webmail) the meeting was in fact created

Small feature request in general: Can you please rename the setup.exe in the future to something more descriptive, like "eM Client Setup 7.0.x"? That would make it easier for the user to know which file is for what in hid download folder....

Hi guys,
unfortunately there seems to be no colum in the global "Sent"-folder specifying mail recipients. There's just a "From"-column (which is unnecessary and redundant from my point of view - yes I know, I sent these mails from my own mail-client ;-). I'm badly missing a "To"-column. It's impossible to sort all your sent mails by recipients. I was wondering if that's a bug?

Yup. I noticed that the To column is missing as being addable for the Sent Mail Folders as well as the Account column for the Smart Folders. It was nice to be able to quickly sort my Smart Inbox by account, if needed or just to see which account the email came to.

@Olivia, is this something that will be fixed in a future release?

I also see that when it comes to the column configuration, you cannot select Folder either. It would be benefit to have that as well, especially when viewing messages in Conversation view. 

On another note with the Column configuration, there is still no way to set up a default column configuration. This means that every time you add a new folder, you need to remember to update the column configuration so that it matches the style you want.

Well, I did find that the Account and Folders columns are visible to be added to the column display when Conversation View is turned off. I assume this is because emails can be in many different folders/accounts within a conversation. I would argue that you should still be able to display those columns in Conversation view as there are always emails that will not be displayed in conversation view and when they are, it should display that information for the most recent email.

Anyone else having old emails show up in their inbox? I have emails that were put in other folders or deleted that are appearing in my inbox. If I select one of the emails, it will not show me the body and I cannot move or delete them.

It looks like it's grouping conversations by subject and if you have a 5 year old message with the same subject it will group it with recent messages.

Yes, same here! Ironically, it happened to me the other day with the confirmation mail for this forum. ;-) Sometimes eM Client even crashes, when I'm trying to delete or move such spooky messages (again).

If anyone else running the v7 beta is experiencing the leap year issue where going to Calendar and viewing the Month view is causing an immediate application error:
Perform the following steps.
Exit eM.
Set your system date to February 28.
Start eM.
GO to Calendar and select ANY view except Month view. I prefer Week view.
GO back to mail.
Exit eM.
Reset system date to February 29.
Start eM.
Everything should work but do NOT go to Month view. It will immediately experience an application error.

Hi, I wonder if you could think about adding an All Mail/Archive smart folder? I'm one of those people who archives new mail that comes into their inbox, and at the moment I'm re-creating this much-needed functionality using a search folder. I see eM Client has smart folders for almost every other type of label, so why not All Mail?

Hi. Please check if you are covering localized names of "All Mails" IMAP folder in gmail. I'm using gmail in Croatian language and my All Mail folder have name "Sva pošta" and I'm receiving frequently "All Mail" folder disabled notification.

Same here! Using it in spanish, and it keeps giving me the notification, that by the way, crashes the application after several times of appearing.

To cover this emClient must have "All Mail" in list of Special Folders in IMAP tab on Tools->Account just like they did with Sent/Drafts/Trash/Junk folders.

About crashes, it happend to me once after continuing from sleep. I did not investigate further.
