Client not opening .dat attachment files

New to free eM Client after losing my beloved IncrediMail of 20 years.  Loving so far.  However, I am receiving .dat attachments that I’ve received in all other email programs I’ve tried and they will not open properly in my OpenOffice Writer program.  These are attachments I get every week and are just simple word documents.  I’ve tried everything I’ve been able to find on this forum.

Hello Sharon,

A file in .dat is a database file. Are you sure that such a file should be a Word/Writer document?
If so, try please manually removing the .dat suffix and enter the expected file type (.docx?) so your office program recognizes it.

Russel

I can’t figure out how to change the suffix.
March 30 -April 3.doc

This is what the attachment says.  That is all I know.  I’ve always just got email and it shows attachment and I press on the attachment symbol the attachment just opens.  I’m sorry I’m not as literate as I’d like to be. I don’t use Microsoft word.  I use a program called OpenOffice Writer.  I haven’t had a problem in other email programs.  Thank you so VERY much for attempting to help me.

Hello Sharon,

If the file shows “March 30 -April 3.doc” then it seems correct (.doc format).
So please try right-clicking on it > Choose “Save as” > Save it into the documents > try opening it as usual from the Documents folder.

Russel

Thank you, Russel, but I’ve tried that, too.  Is there anyway to change it into a PDF?  I’m not sure about that as I said I’m not too literate in computers.  However, I did finally go directly into my email on my ISP site and was able to open it.  So there is no issues with the document itself.  Thanks again for your times and effort on this.

Hello Sharon,

Changing the .doc file to PDF directly from eM Client is unfortunately not possible. You’d have to open it first and then Save As PDF.

Russel

I’m just at a loss.  I checked earlier situations and it seems as though others have had this issue but it has not been resolved.  However, since I can get it offline directly from my ISP, I guess I can live with it.  Thanks so much Russel…

@SHARON,

Hi,  I know you’re at a loss and certainly not the only one.
The “problem” occurs due to which format the sender uses for outgoing mail
,which in this case is RTF
