Typing birthday dates

Can someone please help me find how to type birthday dates in contacts entries? Navigating month by month is making it very tiresome to use.

Click on the icon on the right side of the date box. That will bring up the calendar. Navigate to the month and date you want...ignore the year. Click on your date. Now with the right month and date in the box, you can click on the year to highlight it and just type in the right one.
