Whenever i try to send an email i get an error:
[SMTP] an attempt to connect to (username)@(domainame).com failed. This could be caused by temporary server unavailability or incorrect setting.
I've checked the settings like a 100 times and i'm sure they are correct.
I've also installed 3 other mail clients to see if they got the same message, but they work fine.
But here comes the weird thing, the messages do arrive at the receiver.
What could be the cause of this and how can i solve it?

This problem has been reported in other threads, and there are no answers forthcoming. This is a show stopper. Too bad, eM Client looked so promising.
-
-
Not willing to give up, I turned off my BitDefender virus checker, and eM Client works for me. Now, to get eM Client working along with virus protection...
-
My sbcglobal.net account has the same problem but my gmail.com account works fine. Go figure!! Even turning off my AV didn't help.

I switched to Thunderbird and I can send and receive mail without an issue. I really preferred the eM client interface. Would love to see this issue fixed.
-
-
Well I take back most of the negative things I said, but still, support for "free" users seems to be non-existent. Months go by without solutions for the same simple problems. Now that I have my virus projection set up to work with eM Client, the software does seem to be really slick and nice.
-
-
I had this problem for 4 days and then it started working ok. I really don't know why. Apart from that I like the program.
-
-
I've been using eM Client for quite a while now without any problems. I had an older version installed on two computers and both of them started having this problem this week. I didn't change anything! I'm able to send messages through Windows Mail. I tried upgrading to the latest version of eM Client and the problem continues.

Hi all,
if problems persist we appreciate a little help. We need to get the communication logs that will show us where exactly problems happen. Here are the instruction on how to get them:
1) Create directory "C:\Temp"
2) Download the MailClient.exe.config.zip file from www.emclient.com/tools/System.Net.Tra... and extract it into eM Client directory ("C:\Program Files\eM Client\" or "C:\Program Files (x86)\eM Client\" depending on your system)
3) Run eM Client, it will create the log file in C:\Temp\eMClientTrace.log
Please follow the steps above and send us the eMClientTrace.log file. All your privacy will be preserved.- view 4 more comments

I'm sorry, eM Client with this specific configuration file creates file named System.Net.trace.log in your temporary directory.
-
-
if we can't send email, why give us an email address to send issues to?
-
-
-
-
I'll do that tonight when I get home. Thank you. Ironically it works fine with gmail, verizon is the one giving the issues on sending only
-
-
The issue may be also connected with your firewall or antivirus settings. They can block eM Client from proper functioning.
-
-
Checked firewall, anti-virus and other settings.
Conclusion: EMClient is buggy .... Can anyone suggest an alternative Email client?-
outlook express, you have it

I was experiencing this problem. My pop & smtp both required SSL. I had to change the setting from "use ssl/....if available " to the "force ssl" option. Problems went away and I can receive and send.

The issue may be also connected with your firewall or antivirus settings.

what i have to do with firewall, I allow emClient.exe (AVG firewall)?
It's not enough.
Anything else ?
Gordan, :(-
Yes, somehow allow the application in your firewall and antivirus. If it's still not working, please follow steps I wrote here 2 months ago and send me the log, please.

Hi,
we finally found out the cause of sending problems (using SMTP) if you use Verizon thanks to logs sent to us by one of our customer.
We have done testing with Outlook against Verizon and analyzed the communication and it shows that even Outlook gets rejected by Verizon's servers when authenticating the way eM Client does (using authentication scheme DIGEST-MD5). However, Outlook then uses a simpler (but unsecure) authentication scheme and gets through. eM Client doesn't fall back to another scheme and just reports the error, which seemed better during design, but apparently not Verizon friendly (to be precise, Verizon uses Sun Java System Messaging Server).
We will add the fall back workaround into the next version of eM Client - however, until that version is out, you can workaround the issue manually by using different SMTP server to send your Verizon emails:
Take e.g. smtp.live.com + according credentials (or some other account's SMTP server + credentials) and enter those in the SMTP tab of the Verizon account. That way you should be able to send email with your Verizon email address in the From: field - but through non-verizon SMTP (unless the other account's email provider is blocking this - then you need to try another SMTP server.

I have frequent loss of my wireless connection due to my Panasonic Microwave which obviously has nothing whatever to do with eMC. ALL email clients will error out when network disconnection occurs for whatever reason.
The primary difference between eMC and other clients is in how the error is displayed and handled. Perhaps the primary complaint about eMC is more to do with the annoying pop-up window that requires a navigation/click action every time eMC errors out - what a pain! Once my microwave is off, my wireless connection reactivates and my mail is received, but I still have to babysit the numerous and frequent eMC pop-ups.
Solution: show a hyper-linked error icon on the bottom status bar (like Outlook does) that will give the users more details only if they CHOOSE to click the icon. This will eliminate a major eMC-related complaint that was caused by outside conditions unrelated to eMC. -
-
Hi,
there is option 'Show window when an error occurrs' in Operations window section accessible by menu Tools->Settings->General. You can disable it to prevent eM Client to display errors. Then you can access errors in Operatons window from bottom status bar as you mentioned. -
-
The problem is not just the Operations window that pops up with the error message. The bigger problem is that outgoing email messages don't get sent!
Any solution? My provider is Cox Communications.-
Thank you...can somebody fix this already...

Yep my problem as well- called server and the have no answer- Frontier
and on your smtp page there is no SMTP Authentication place AND in the back office for Frontier..they gve examples for all types of email programs but emclient- so---
this is all I can find
------------------------------------------
Oh and since the upgrade- the program locks up a lot-
----------------------------------------------
Port 25 blocking prevents spammers from sending masses of unauthorized junk e-mail. Port 25 is the port, or connection, on your computer through which outgoing e-mail must pass.
Due to an increase of complaints about spam (Internet junk mail) and computer viruses sent via outgoing e-mail messages, as of December 3, 2003, Frontier has blocked all SMTP SMTP
When you are exchanging email on the Internet SMTP is the computing technology that keeps the process orderly. SMTP allows emails to be sent outbound via the Internet or a network of computers. Emails are retrieved on the inbound side by one of two protocols POP POP
One of two forms of technology that allow your computer to retrieve email messages from the Internet or a network of computers. The other newer protocol is IMAP IMAP

(port 25) traffic over our network from Frontier High Speed Internet customers (with dynamic IPs) that is not sent through Frontier outgoing mail servers (smtp.frontier.com). We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.
This change only applies if you have a dynamic IP address. If you have Frontier Business Class High Speed Internet (or SDSL) and a static IP address, your outgoing e-mail will not be affected by this change.
If you have been affected by this change, please change your outgoing mail server to the following:
smtp.frontier.com
You might also have to configure your e-mail program to authenticate to our outgoing mail server. For instructions on how to do so, please visit our SMTP Authentication web site.
Note: Some customers telecommuting from home may be unable to send e-mail using their companies' e-mail systems. For your own security, we suggest establishing a secure connection via an application such as VPN, in order to utilize the outgoing mail server for your place of business. -

BTY- this is a new issue since I have been using emclient for 6 months- its something going on with Servers-and emclient..Frontier...had me change to a different server..we used to be citlink.net- They are making everyone go to frontier.com----I changed to Frontier.com in November ish- this started right after the update.

Hi,
this points to some server-side net communication problems. If you' ll be so kind and email us communication logs using menu Tools->Settings->Logging, enable Network communication and press Send Logs. We would appreciate that.

Yes, it should be enough for us.

I am having the SMTP send problem I try to send and it says connecting then I get the error that started this thread in the first place at the top...I have to try sending 3 or 4 times before it might actually go, but it finally does go. This is not reliable. I upgraded to the latest version of emclient and the behavior is exactly the same.
What is going on here???

I would get rid of your anti virus programme and use Microsoft Security Essentials. You will find that emclient will work.

Hello,
I am sorry, the problem was that log files weren't created when you tried to send them. So we need to create them first: let Network communication option enabled, try to simulate the issue and then turn off and turn on eM Client (it will save logs to files). After that use the menu instruction I wrote here above. If you cannot send even these logs, please, save them (during the procedure) and send them to us (staron@emclient.com) by some other way.

I am having this identical problem on a new Windows 7 PC and smpt.comcast.net. Interestingly I first installed Windows Live Mail and had this exact same problem. As I was not impressed with the Live Mail interface anyway I replaced it with eM Clent because it is similar to Outlook Express. I hoped the problem would go away but it did not. Comcast uses simple (non SSL) authentication. The same parameters work perfectly to send mail on an XP machine running Outlook Express. It seems it might be a timing problem on the much faster Win 7 machine as mail does occasionally get sent successfully. Has anyone got to the bottom of this problem yet?
-
-
Addendum: I installed EM Client on my slower XP machine and still could not send SMTP to Comcast. Outlook Express manages fine on the same machine. It is not a timing problem then. It is something OE knows how to do but eM Client does not.
-
If you are sure your account settings are set OK, please send us your communication logs. Instruction can be found in this thread above.

Hi Gabriel,
I just sent you the EM log 2011-04-12_11-16-48.log
For comparison I also sent the log from my XP machine when successfully sending mail. I included a tracert I did to try to understand the routing.
I hope this helps, DicK -
-
Hi Gabriel,
I sent you the logs as requested. I'd really appreciate some feedback as I'd like to use EM Client as my email interface in Win 7. Thanks,-
Hi,
don't you have some kind of protection installed (firewall,antivirus..) ? -
-
-
-
-
Of course I have the Windows firewall, McAFee Virus protection and a NAT Router installed. I added your exe to the firewall exceptions. It made no difference of course because that only applies to allowing apps to accept connections externally. Anyway OE is not an exception and is perfectly happy to send mail to Comcast and neither McAFee or the router report any exceptions. I have abstracted the logs, success for OE and failure for eM Client, and will send them to you (smtp.log). One interesting point is that OE finds its way to a different server (71.237.74.95) rather than the initial DNS address for smtp.comcast.net (76.96.62.117) that your log implies. 587 is the correct port for Comcast SMTP. Maybe there is some failure in routing from eM Client ?
Please do not give me the standard Help desk run around. As an ex System Administrator and programmer I do know something about what I am doing, enough to be dangerous at least although I am not a network engineer. -
-
According to the logs the connection to 76.96.30.117:587 fails outside the control of eM Client, which points to a firewall / antivirus problem, as previously indicated. I have tried to access the address using PuTTY from our network and it works just fine and connects without a problem.
The IP address also looks correct according to lookup from Google DNS:
Server: google-public-dns-a.google.com
Address: 8.8.8.8
Non-authoritative answer:
Name: smtp.g.comcast.net
Address: 76.96.62.117
Aliases: smtp.comcast.net
eM Client does nothing special in regard to routing and uses the default route tables in Windows system.
71.237.xxx.xxx is your IP address, not the SMTP server's one. -
-
My apologies Filip and Gabriel, you are correct. McAFee was blocking MailClient under a rule preventing mass mailing worms from sending mail. I use an Enterprise version of McAfee so the following may not apply exactly to the consumer version. To fix McAFee open the Virus Scan Consol. Right click on Access protection. Select Properties. In the new "Access Protection Properties " window select the rule, "Prevent mass mailing...". Click Edit. In the "Rule Details" Window type in ", MailClient.exe" at the end of the list of "Processes to Exclude". Press OK. Then click "Apply" in the Access Protection Properties window. Click "OK". eM Client will now send mail. It was undoubtedly the same problem I saw with Windows Live Mail and should be able to be fixed the same way.
Thanks for the help.-
This was the exact cause of my problem as well, after checking the setting 20 times, I finally decided to look in the LOG FILE of McAfee to see if I was being blocked and it showed up right there. What eM needs to do is contact McAfee and get on their standard preloaded list of email clients so that they are not blocked by this standard rule.
-
-
I bet money that's what they need to do with Frontier. They will not help us because emClient is not on their support list. Every few weeks I have this lock out issue- SMPT will not send or I have to keep verifying my account

I have two laptops with eMail Client installed, latest version 3.0.9716.0, and can receive mail yet cannot send on my laptop. My Wife's works just fine. I did the above suggested download/install/create 'tmp' folder with the Config file in the eMail Client folder and it creates NOTHING!!
-
-
Hi,
in the version 3.0 of eM Client you can use menu Tools->Settings->Logging and check Network communication. Then simulate the issue, restart eM Client and send us the logs using the same logging settings window. -
-
I fixed the problem (for me) that's discussed above. I was using Outlook and kept getting "not sent" errors when sending emails with large attachments. The email would stay in my Outbox as if it had never been sent. But with each server retry, the email was actually sent. I had friends emailing me back with "Hey, funny video; but why did you send it 16 times!?"
Outlook had been acting weird for me in other ways too, so I switched to eM Client. When I found that eMC was doing the same thing; I went back to Outlook and lengthened the server timeout period. That fixed it. So, I looked for the same setting on eMC and couldn't find it.
That's when I found this topic and saw EMPLOYEE's comment about the AV software. I turned out my AV's (GData) setting to check outgoing email, and now eMC works fine. (Why check outgoing email that I forward when GData has already checked it on the inbound?!) -
-
Ok so I continue to have the SMTP issue with Frontier. There is this requirement in the server area.. the Em Client does not have secure server requirements..and every so often ..frontier just will not recognize my mail ..go figure.I figure it happens when they do upgrades or something. Anyway..if I have a email that gets stuck..and remains in out box.. nothing will go out until this one email is removed. took me 3 days to resolve this issue. I kept doing the test thing..with new emails and new settings...nothing worked. Called support they couldnt find anything other than the security policy setting problem.
But after all else fails we put the first email in draft and ..boom ...all others went flying out the box.
So..here's one solution..after the issue starts. Who knows if this will work for anyone else. Seeing how frustrating this was for me thought it was worth passing on -
-
Hi, I also have an issue with IMAP, connecting to our Linux SME Server. In Outlook, when I connect I'm prompted with a authentication, which I simply click OK. I get no such prompt with EMClient. I assume that this is where it fails. Is there any think I can do to get them to talk?
-
-
Hi, EM has worked brilliantly for the past 10 months but I am now getting the same problem, which up to yesterday was intermitent and I put down to the server being busy, I have checked my settings (countless times) and also logged in manually ok but I still keep getting "Access Denied" and now it appears to be permanent. I have tried the "draft box" idea but it doesn't make any difference. This seems to have started since the last update. I use W7 HELP!!!
