I’m stressed

re install problems

OK so like a prat i reformated my laptop in a hurry and when i saved my eM client settings i just copied the Em folder frol Appdata and now it wont load my old settings and mail.
This was how i used to do it in Thunderbird with the profile folder and i thought it was the same but alas it is not..

Any ideas how i can add the old folders from my previous installation... I have tried pasting them in the folder but this does not work.

Presumably, you copied this directory:
C:\Users\****\AppData\Roaming\eM Client\

?

Reading what it says in tools, settings, storage - implies you can import this way. Have you installed exactly back to the same place and overwritten your eM Client folder with the old one - or are you pasting inside it? Never tried it myself, so don't know how this works.

There is some blurb about the settings.xml file needing to be retained.

  Yes i pasted inside the folder and over wrote the files, i will try to replace the folder later but but i don't think it will make any difference. :-(

  It gave some error message which i cant remember now. I have reinstalled my settings now manually but have lost my saved emails :-(
  Infact if i remember correctly when i opened Emclient it displayed the corrupted database box and searched for 2 different things... the second one was the problem but i forget what it was...

What's the status of this question?

Presumably, you copied this directory: C:\Users\****\AppData\Roaming\eM Client\ ? Reading what it says in tools, settings, storage - implies you can import this way. Have you installed exactly back to the same place and overwritten your eM Client folder with the old one - or are you pasting inside it? Never tried it myself, so don't know how this works. There is some blurb about the settings.xml file needing to be retained.

There are three things you can do to remedy this situation:

1) Update to the latest version available at http://www.emclient.com/dist/latest/s... and then go to Start -> Run and type the following:
"C:\Program Files\eM Client\DbRepair.exe" /checkall
or alternatively, if you use 64-bit system:
"C:\Program Files (x86)\eM Client\DbRepair.exe" /checkall

2) Download a tool from http://www.emclient.com/tools/DbRepai... and run it.

3) Delete the database files located in C:\Users\[your user name]\AppData\Roaming\eM Client (on Windows Vista/Windows 7) or C:\Documents and Settings\[your user name]\Application Data\eM Client (on Windows XP). This will remove all settings though.

Thanks for your reply but i have now re installed from scratch again.

I have one problem though and that is the migration of my emails.
I have some of them saved on the mail server but not all.
I have the following folders saved. Do any of these contain my emails and if so can i import them somehow?
The files are listed in the attached screen shot.

Hi,
it's hard to extract your old mails (or repair database) if you don't have files mail_fti.dat and mail_index.dat as I can see from your screenshot list. Try to find them.

Looks like i have lost some of my emails luckily most of them were on the server but lesson learnt i guess check and double check before re formatting.
